Former New Zealand international announces retirement
Former New Zealand international Lewis Brown has confirmed his retirement from professional rugby league.
The 32-year-old back-rower will finish on 199 NRL appearances, having for New Zealand Warriors, Penrith Panthers and Manly Sea Eagles.
Brown made his international debut for the Kiwis in 2010 and went on to earn 15 caps for his country.
On retiring, Brown said: “Ever since I was a little boy, all I dreamt about was playing for New Zealand and in the NRL.
“Today, I have decided to walk away from my dream and retire. I achieved more than I set out to do and have created memories and friendships that will never be forgotten or broken.
“I want to thank the game, all my team-mates, fans and teams – New Zealand, New Zealand Warriors, Penrith Panthers and Manly Sea Eagles – but most of all, I want to thank family, especially mum and pop. They sacrificed so much to make sure I achieved what so many people said I would never be able to do.
“I will always love the game but you know when it is time to walk away. I look forward to all the new challenges I face in life.
“Playing professional footy has proved to me that anything in life is possible. To the young kids living their dream in the NRL – make the most of it because it goes fast.”
Brown made 215 professional appearances in total, scoring 34 tries.
