French Magic Weekend kicks off new season with an extra point for winners

Elite 1 kick-off

The Elite 1 Championship kicks off this weekend with a Magic Weekend in Carcassonne, featuring all 10 clubs. In an interesting difference to the Super League version, winners over the weekend will receive four points for a win, rather than the usual three. Love Rugby League will be at the Stade Albert Domec to cover all five games live.

Villefranche go top as champions lose again

In the Elite 2 Championship, Villefranche coasted past a Lyon-Villeurbanne side that had just 13 players in its matchday squad, running up a 66-8 scorelines. That win puts Villefranche top of the table.

New boys Ille continued their impressive start to life in Elite 2, dominating Toulon in a 52-14 thrashing.

Reigning champions Baho, still missing several players, failed to win back to back games as they suffered another loss, this time going down 22-14 at Carpentras. In the weekend’s other game, VARL continued their rise up the ladder with a 32-22 home win over Entraigues.
