Gale to whip up a storm at Wigan?
What has Luke Gale got in common with Albert Kelly and Andre Savelio?
Castleford half-back Gale is one of only three players to have scored the first try in a match twice this season.
He’s in good company – the other two are Hull’s Kelly and Warrington forward Savelio.
In the 44 Super League matches so far, three have been draws, while the team that has scored the first try has gone on to win the match 26 times, compared to 15 times by the losing team.
So scoring first has proved to be a bit more important in 2017 to date.
Gale scored the first try in a victory and also in the 13-12 reverse at Salford, both of Savelio’s efforts came in defeat for Warrington, while Kelly boasts a win and a draw.
Betfred are offering 11/1 for Gale to be first try scorer when Castleford visit on Wigan on Thursday, although there’s no chance for the other two to make it a hat-trick – Savelio isn’t in the Warrington squad for their game against Leeds, while Kelly is back in Australia on compassionate leave.
