Galea injury blow for Hull

Hull’s mounting injury list was worsened on Monday with Ben Galea dislocating a thumb in the win over Wakefield.

Already without a host of stars including Gareth Ellis, Daniel Holdsworth, Shannon McDonnell and Kirk Yeaman, a morale-boosting victory at Wakefield was dampened by news of Galea’s injury, which is set to rule him out for as long as two months.

Galea, 34, is in his first season with the Airlie Birds having joined from local rivals Hull KR in the off-season.

Coach Peter Gentle is likely to put his faith in the club’s youngsters in Galea’s absence, with Dean Hadley, Josh Bowden, Jay Pitts and Chris Green all waiting in the wings.

Hull’s 34-22 victory at Wakefield was just their third win of the season.
