As part of a new weekly column, we round-up the latest news from the domestic game in France.
Garry Lo stays in Carcassonne
Former Castleford and Sheffield winger Garry Lo has signed a new deal with Coupe de France winners Carcassonne XIII. The mid-season signing scored 11 tries in 10 Championship matches as Carcassonne also reached the Elite 1 final.
Margalet goes back to his roots
Thibaud Margalet will go back to his roots and join hometown club Ille XIII in Elite 2 next season. The 26-year-old prop has played 31 games for Catalans Dragons, as well as turning out for their reserve side Saint-Esteve XIII Catalan in Elite 1.
Carcassonne XIII coaching duo extend deals
A year ago, Carcassonne was facing bankrupty and not sure of being able to be a part of the 2019 competition. Led by coaching duo Frederical Camel and Patrick Alberola, the Canaries enjoyed a great season winning the Coupe de France and reaching the Grand Final. As a result, the club has given their coaching staff a new one-year deal.
Wall goes to Villeneuve
Australian half-back Brad Wall has swapped Saint-Gaudens for Villeneuve XIII. He had been with Saint-Gaudens for three seasons but now takes on a new challenge with Villeneuve, who have hopes to play in Elite 1 in a couple of years.
How will Elite 2 look?
The Elite 1 fixture list was revealed at the end of last week, but the Elite 2 calendar is not yet complete. Ferrals and Villeneuve Minervois have gone down and Ille have been promoted, but there are still uncertainties about other clubs. Elite 2 could run as 10 or 12 teams.
Pomeroy returns to Australia
Ex-Warrington centre Ben Pomeroy has left champions Saint-Esteve XIII Catalan to return home to Australia. The 35-year-old has spent the past six years in Europe and was one of the star men as Saint-Esteve claimed the Elite 1 title.
