Gary Wheeler makes Barrow move
League 1 leaders Barrow have signed former St Helens, Warrington and Toronto centre Gary Wheeler.
Wheeler, 31, has been without a club since leaving the Wolfpack by mutual consent in March 2020.
A Super Leaguer winner with St Helens in 2011, he scored 26 tries in 77 Super League appearances for Saints and Warrington, and also played once for England Knights.
He joins up with the Raiders until the end of the season alongside veteran centre or back-rower Liam Harrison.
Harrison, 37, made more than 300 appearances for his hometown club between 2005 and 2016 and has now come out of retirement to play alongside brother Ben, and help the Raiders through an injury crisis.
Raiders chairman Steve Neale said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the signings. It’s another statement of intent around the quality of personnel we are recruiting and when we get our injured stars back there will now be an embarrassment of riches and real selection headaches.
“Barrow Raiders are determined to gain promotion to compliment all the great work that has been going on off the field.”
Barrow have won all seven of their league matches this season and welcome Workington Town to Craven Park this Sunday.
