Gateshead boosted ahead of Swinton clash

Gateshead are given a double boost ahead of Sunday’s Co-operative Championship One fixture with Swinton.

Director of rugby Chris Hood has confirmed that Kevin Neighbour is expected to play following a recent knee injury.

And Matt Barron will also come back into contention now that he has completed his three-match suspension.

Hood said: “Swinton have got some quality players, so it’s good to have these blokes back.”

He added: “Swinton have gone through some troubles themselves, but I’m sure that as with all clubs when there’s a change in coaching personnel there’s always a reaction. They’ll come out firing and wanting to impress Paul Kidd.

“However, we’ve had a good week ourselvse. This team is still in its infancy and there’s a lot of work going on.”

Swinton will be without experienced campaigners Paul Smith, Graham Holroyd and Paul Southern after all three left the club last week.

But with Paul Kidd back in charge, the Lions are hoping to continue from last week’s 56-28 win against London.

Kidd said: “There were some sloppy errors, but if we can cut those out and play like a team then I’m sure we’ll be OK.”
