Gene proud of Thunder’s iPro Cup campaign

Newcastle Thunder coach Stanley Gene is hoping that his team can take their iPro Cup form into the league campaign.

Thunder lost a hard-fought iPro Cup semi-final to Swinton Lions on Tuesday evening, but Gene felt that his players would have learned big lessons from the encounter.

“Swinton are a class side and have been playing at a higher level than us for the last couple of seasons,” said Gene.

“They have some great players right across the pitch so it was always going to be hard, but I’m very proud of my side and how far we have come in such a short time.

“We’ll take our good form into the rest of the season and see how we go.”
