Grix wants warm Warrington welcome for Higham
Simon Grix has urged Warrington fans to give Leigh skipper Mickey Higham a friendly welcome when the clubs meet in Grix’s testimonial game later this month.
The Centurions play Warrington on January 24, and Grix wants to see his former Wire team-mate treated well by the home fans.
“I’m sure Leigh will be ready to see where they’re at with a host of new additions and the return of the bloke with the longest pockets and shortest arms I’ve seen,” Grix wrote, in his column for the Warrington Guardian.
“Mickey left under a cloud and we were all sad to see him leave but in sport people come and go.
“However, as sure as I am he holds a place in the Wire faithful’s hearts, the three CC winners’ medals hold great sentiment for Micky from his time with the primrose and blue.
“For me he played his best rugby at Warrington and deserves a good reception, not too good though!
“His old apprentice Brad Dwyer will be wanting to put one over his former master and I wouldn’t bet against him after his derby performance.”
