Harry Aldous extends Newcastle stay

Newcastle back-rower Harry Aldous has signed a new contract with the club for 2020.

The 24-year-old has made 88 appearances for Thunder over the last four seasons, and spent time on loan at York in the Championship last campaign.

Newcastle coach Simon Finnigan said: “Harry gives everything on the field, and he is the sort of player that everyone likes to play with because of that.

“He has really good footwork in the line, he finds his front and plays the ball quickly and for someone who is not overly big in the middle, he plays a lot bigger than he is with some excellent contact along with that.

“He spent some time on loan with York in the Championship and that was probably an error from me to let him go out on loan, he did very well and we were desperate to get him back within our group and ever since he has been back, he has never been out of the team.

“He is a valuable member of our squad and I thought he was very good, particularly at the end of the season through the play-offs. I’m glad he has re-signed and that he wanted to stay because he is very good for our group.”

Aldous added: “I’ve had a good five years here at Thunder, I was straight out of the Under-19s when I first joined and I’ve played most of my career here and it has been good to progress with the club.

“One thing that has made it easy to keep signing on is the ambition that the club has got and seeing the vision of where they want to take it. Its good to be a club with that kind of goal and try to progress as a player with it.”
