Haven in talks with McNally

Whitehaven have confirmed that they are in talks with former player Gregg McNally over a possible return to the Recreation Ground in 2012.

The 20-year-old sensationally broke onto the scene in 2008 when he scored a hat-trick on his debut to help Haven defeat Salford live on SKY TV.

That performance, along with many others, prompted Super League interest and Huddersfield offered the youngster a deal in 2009.

Despite not featuring for the first team in 2009, he return to Whitehaven on loan where he had another impressive season, scoring 25 tries in the process.

McNally struggled to break into the Huddersfield first team amidst fierce competition, and it was announced that he wouldn’t be offered a new deal.

Haven CEO Barry Richardson stated “It was an initial chat and Gregg will still have ambitions to play in Super League, but if that doesn’t work out, we’ll be first in the queue.

“We didn’t want to push him but we have registered our interest. We would like to give him the opportunity to come back to his hometown club and move forward.

“Gregg is still young and has a lot of potential. He was very successful at Whitehaven and his experience in a Super League environment will have developed him further.”

Despite having limited opportunities at Huddersfield, McNally did feature at full back for Ireland in last year’s European Cup.
