Heart condition sidelines Keighley utility back

Keighley utility back Jordan Aitchison will take a step back from playing after a heart condition was discovered during a routine screening earlier this month.

Club doctor and widely respected cardiologist, Dr Richard Lawrence, discovered the condition and Aitchison has since been advised the condition can be cured with an operation.

The previously undiagnosed condition is one that Aitchison has had since birth, and has answered many questions during his career where he has personally questioned his own fitness levels and ability.

Heart screening was made mandatory by the RFL in 2015 following the passing of former Keighley favourite Danny Jones.

Coach Rhys Lovegrove said: “This is an extremely difficult period for Jordan and one that as his Head Coach I will fully back him throughout.

“Jordan showed last season the ability he possesses with Man of the Match performances against Oldham and London, and I have no doubt that he will back at his best once again following the

completion of his treatment.”

It acts as a reminder to all professional and amateur rugby league players to undertake all medical examinations available to them.
