Howell out for two months

Harlequins are set to be without David Howell for up to two months after the Australian centre had an operation on his knee.

Howell has missed the last two games for Quins and may not feature until the middle of July as he overcomes the injury.

Harlequins RL head coach Rob Powell confirmed the injury to Howell saying: “David Howell will be out for another seven weeks, following a clean out of his knee.”

Meanwhile Powell hopes to welcome back Luke Dorn in the next two weeks. Dorn had come back from an initial hamstring problem only to tweak the same hamstring while playing against Leeds Rhinos in the Carnegie Challenge Cup clash at HeadingleyCarnegie.

In what could be a double boost, Rob Purdham, currently in his testimonial year, could also be back to training in the next couple of weeks. The influential captain sustained a shoulder injury which has taken longer to heal than was initially hoped.

Jason Golden is the Quins only other player on the injury list following a series of complications with an initial groin injury sustained in pre-season.

Powell said: “There have been some improvements recently so we’re hoping at some point we’ll see him.”
