Wakefield debutant facing tribunal following red card whilst four players handed suspensions

Four players have been handed suspensions following Round 15 of Super League, with Wakefield debutant Hugo Salabio facing a tribunal over a Grade F charge.

The French forward was sent off four minutes into the second half of Wakefield’s 24-14 win over Leeds on Sunday afternoon for a spear tackle on Rhinos back Richie Myler.

Salabio was making his Wakefield debut having joined the club on a month’s trial last month. He has received a Grade F charge by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel.

Salabio will face a tribunal on Tuesday evening and if found guilty, Salabio will be suspended for at least six matches.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Wakefield coach Mark Applegarth said there was ‘no question’ about it being a red card and had no qualms with it.

Meanwhile, two of Salabio’s team-mates have been handed bans by the match review panel in the shape of Sam Eseh and Sam Hewitt.

Eseh has picked up a one-match ban for a Grade B dangerous contact, with Hewitt – who is on loan from Huddersfield – being banned for one match for a Grade B trip.

Eseh and Hewitt will miss Wakefield’s next game against Hull KR on Friday, June 23.

Elsewhere, Catalans Dragons duo Mitchell Pearce and Matt Whitley have been given suspensions following their 38-4 win over Hull KR on Saturday night.

Australian half-back Pearce has been given a three-match ban for a Grade D strike, with English forward Matt Whitley getting a one-match suspension for Grade C dangerous contact.

Pearce will miss the Dragons’ upcoming matches against Leigh, Hull and Huddersfield, with Whitley sitting out the Leigh game next weekend.
