Hull KR release statement on Brad Takairangi

Hull KR have released a short statement following allegations brought against Brad Takairangi by Humberside police.

Takairangi, 32, joined the Super League club ahead of the 2021 season, having previously played for Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast Titans and Parramatta Eels.

It has been reported that the utility player has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The club said in a statement: “Hull KR have been made aware by the player and his legal representative of allegations brought against him by Humberside police.

“The matter is under review by the club and will be dealt with internally.

“There will be no further comment at this stage from the club or player.”

Takairangi’s career

Takairangi received the number three jersey for the 2022 season. He made made 19 appearances in his debut year, scoring twice.

The utility player, who can feature in the centres, halves or at back-row, started his career in the NRL with the Roosters, making his debut in 2010.

Before making his first-grade appearance in the NRL, Takairangi made his international debut for Cook Islands in 2009. He has won seven caps so far, while also representing New Zealand four times.

He joined Gold Coast Titans ahead of the 2013 season, and went on to make 39 appearances in two seasons.

The Australian-born player went on to join Parramatta for the 2015 season, and made 110 appearances before making the switch to the Super League.

Former Leeds and England forward Jamie Jones-Buchanan has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list.

Jones-Buchanan, 40, spent 20 years playing for his hometown club before retiring in 2019.

He has been recognised for his services to rugby league and the community.
