Hull KR: Tony Smith dampens speculation on future
Hull KR Head Coach Tony Smith has played down speculation around his future at the club.
He had been linked with a possible return to his old club Leeds, following the resignation of Richard Agar as Head Coach.
Last week, he was not present in his press conference, which heightened speculation about his future.
However, Smith insists he is happy at the club, and is in the twilight of his career.
When asked about the speculation, Smith said: “It’s not on the radar at the moment. I’m fine, the club’s fine, I make the team ready for each and every week. That’s all I’m focusing on.
“When and if and all those sorts of things happen. We’ll let the public know, and you guys in the press, all those media managers will get in touch and say this is done or this isn’t done, or we’re deciding to or not to do all those things.
“It’s your job to speculate and all that sort of stuff. My job is to prepare the team and get them ready. You guys can keep talking about that. Hopefully, it’s not a distraction for my boys, you know, the players and all that talk about the coach.
But I’m in that twilight of my career where I’ll only keep coaching if I feel I’m effective and the right person for the job. If not, I’ll move on. That’s how it’s always been since I’ve been here. We’ll assess that further down the track.”
