Hunslet add young Robins forward
Hunslet have announced the signing of second row forward Liam Carr from Hull KR for the 2022 season.
Carr came through the academy at Hull KR, having been spotted playing for Castleford Panthers. The 19-year-old still has an affiliation to the Panthers, as he coaches the Under-18s side. They currently play in Division three of the Yorkshire Juniors Under-18s league.
He will now make the step up to open age and part-time rugby.
Talking to the club website, Carr said:“I’m eager to continue my career development and everything tells me that the South Leeds Stadium is exactly the best place to do that.
“Head coach Alan Kilshaw is very firm on having a young team made up mainly of local lads, and that’s the way forward for me. I’m hungry to play against men, rather than at youth level, and I’m looking forward to gaining experience in Betfred League One.”
Hunslet Head Coach Kilshaw added:“Liam comes with some great raps. He’s another young lad wanting to make his mark at senior level.
He’s got a great attitude and physically has all the attributes to perform in the back row. It’s now the job of myself and the coaching staff to develop Liam’s game to the next level.”
Hunslet building for the future
Carr is the 24th player to agree a deal with the South Leeds side for the 2022 season. He joins youngster Tre Webster, who signed for the club on Tuesday. Aaron Jones-Bishop has also agreed a new deal.
The club has a mixture of youth from Super League academies and experience of League One level, as they hope to make a challenge for promotion in 2022.
They finished sixth in League One in 2021, and their playoff adventure was ended by Doncaster in the First Round.
