Hunslet appoint new head coach for 2024 with current boss Alan Kilshaw heading to Swinton Lions
Hunslet have appointed Dean Muir as their new coach from 2024, replacing Alan Kilshaw who will take charge of Championship club Swinton Lions.
It was confirmed last month that Kilshaw would depart Hunslet at the end of the season to take up a two-year deal as head coach of Swinton Lions, who currently play in the Championship, replacing Allan Coleman, who will link up with Widnes Vikings in 2024.
And now Hunslet have announced the appointment of Muir, who assisted Keighley Cougars in their unbeaten League 1 side in 2022 and returned to Cougar Park as part of their coaching set-up in July to help guide them to Championship survival in 2023.
He has enjoyed success this year with West Bowling, helping the Bradford-based club win promotion to the National Conference League’s Premier Division.
On becoming Hunslet’s new head coach, Muir said: “I’m excited by the challenge and can’t wait to start.
“I’m looking forward to working with a talented group of players and I know we can achieve performances the fans will be proud of.”
Hunslet delighted to appoint Dean Muir as head coach
Hunslet say they fielded applications from both rugby codes for the head coaching job – but Muir was the standout candidate.
Hunslet chairman Kenny Sykes said: “Dean is an up and coming young coach who impressed greatly with his knowledge of the club, the technical aspects of the sport and his long-term vision, which is very much aligned with our own.
“His appointment followed a robust selection process and I’d like to thank all those individuals who took the time to apply for the post and wish them all success in the future.
“For both Hunslet, and Dean, this is an opportunity for us to move forward together to achieve our aims.”
Muir will formally take up his role with Hunslet on October 1, with Kilshaw continuing in his role until the end of the season, with the goal of achieving promotion to the Championship.
