Huddersfield coach Ian Watson said his side produced a ‘miles better’ display in their win over Castleford compared to what they’ve shown in recent weeks.

The Giants ended a four-match losing streak on Friday night as they beat Castleford 20-4 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield were 10-4 to the good at half-time thanks to a try from Esan Marsters and three goals from Jake Connor in the first half.

Further scores from Ireland international Innes Senior and Fiji captain Kevin Naiqama in the second 40 secured the two points for the Giants.

Speaking after the game, Watson said: “It was miles better from us.

“It looked more like us, that’s what we’ve been speaking about as a group. It was a really good team performance.

“We started playing well from minute zero. We were playing right into the teeth of them, asking a few questions.

“Overall, it was pleasing. We would have loved to put on a few more tries at the end but I’d rather win 20-4 every week than be in a game and lose 42-40.”

Ian Watson praises Jake Connor’s influence in Giants win

Speaking after the game, Watson hailed the influential display of Jake Connor.

He said: “I thought he was really good, he played smart. He played tough when he needed to and smart when he needed to.

“Jake’s building, he’s getting there. Jake wasn’t just for this year, he’s for going forward and for a team that can compete for a long time.”

Next up for the Giants is a clash with champions St Helens at Magic Weekend next Sunday 2:15pm kick-off.
