Jamaica ready for Canadian face-off

Jamaica have announced their 22-man initial squad for their forthcoming clash with Canada in Toronto.

The two teams will play for the Caribbean Carnival Cup for the fourth time, with Canada’s Wolverines currently being in possession of the trophy.

They beat the Reggae Warriors 38-14 last time out, but the Jamaicans are going into the clash full of confidence.

“Our aim is to compete for 80 minutes,” said Jamaican coach Romeo Monteith.

“We have prepared well and have a squad that is hungry for success. The coaching staff is confident that our boys will put in a good effort and make Jamaica proud.”

The squad includes two players from England, in the shape of Sheffield Eagles centre Corey Hanson, and Hamish Barnes from amateur outfit Siddal.

Some extra needle is added to the contest by four of the Jamaica squad playing their club rugby in the Canadian National Rugby League Championship.

Orlando Jones, Donald Walters, Kenneth Walker and Greg Hall will therefore be keen to claim a victory.

The match will take place at the Lamport Stadium in Toronto on Saturday, July 19, with kick off at 7pm.
