Josh Thewlis commits long-term future to Warrington
Warrington have tied down exciting full-back Josh Thewlis to a new deal that will see him remain with the club until at least the end of 2026.
The 20-year-old has scored 11 tries in 30 games for Warrington since making his first team debut in 2019.
Thewlis said: “I’m buzzing to be staying here.
“I love everything about the club and the town. It’s a hard-working town and the fans are brilliant.
“I really enjoy playing under Powelly (Daryl Powell). I’ve really learnt a lot from him and the other coaches. It’s all the fine details and I think that’s shown on the pitch and I’m a lot more comfortable.
“I’m ready to go again now and make a big impact.”
Daryl Powell happy to lock in Josh Thewlis for the long-term
Thewlis, who is eligible to play for England or Ireland internationally, came through Warrington’s academy. He will wear primrose and blue for the next four-and-a-half seasons at least.
Warrington coach Daryl Powell said: “I’d seen Josh playing most of his rugby as a winger when I came in. What he’s done this year is come in at full-back and shown that he’s got a real bright future in the game.
“There’s some things he needs to continue to work on but the three things he has got in abundance are attitude, commitment and toughness.
“He’s got many qualities and is going to develop into an outstanding player for this club. He’s one of many young players we’ve got here with big futures.”
Warrington sit ninth in the Super League table having won just from 15 games so far this season. They welcome Hull to the Halliwell Jones Stadium tonight, live on Sky Sports.
