Kear wants Batley better with ball

Batley Bulldogs coach John Kear thinks his side need to improve in attack, after their win over Whitehaven last week.

That 16-8 victory gave the Bulldogs’ hopes of making the Middle Eights a real boost, but Kear wants to see more against Featherstone Rovers this weekend.

“I wasn’t completely happy with the performance and neither were the players,” said Kear.

“We defended really well which is pleasing, but there’s other aspects of the game we can certainly improve upon, our smartness with the ball in hand and our kicking game.

“Featherstone are a very cohesive team. I’ve looked at their game against Workington and they played really well. We’re certainly prepared for a very difficult game of rugby league.”

Shaun Ainscough is likely to start for Batley this week.

Featherstone beat Workington town 44-22 last week.
