Kevin Sinfield will definitely stay on as RFL rugby director

Rugby Football League chief executive Ralph Rimmer has confirmed that Kevin Sinfield will be the governing body’s rugby director for the Ashes series in 2020.

England will host Australia in a three-match test series next autumn, with games being played in Bolton, Leeds and Tottenham.

Wayne Bennett’s contract as Great Britain and England head coach has expired – but he will be reviewed in detail by the RFL over the next couple of months, with Sinfield being part of the review committee.

When asked if Sinfield was under threat in his position after GB’s 4-0 whitewash tour, Rimmer replied: “No, it’s not something we have to consider.

“Kevin is doing the review with me and that’s it.

“We’ve said publicly that we will take until the end of the year to come through the review, the executive will make a recommendation and then that will go to the board.

“There will be a great deal of consultation and Wayne’s role is part of that. It’s going to be a considered piece of work that will get us to a good place.”
