Kristian Woolf: St Helens coach taking nothing away from Toulouse

St Helens coach Kristian Woolf believes there will be a lot of teams who will lose in Toulouse this season but wants his side to cure their travel sickness.

The reigning Super League champions suffered their shock first defeat of the season at bottom club Toulouse 22-20.

Saints lost their unbeaten run last season away at Catalans and this year at Toulouse.

Woolf said: “It’s true our first losses of both seasons have been in Franc. We need to find out the reasons why.

“But let’s not take any credit from Toulouse, they were excellent tonight and there are going to be lots of teams who come here and lose this season.

“It’s a difficult place to come to and their supporters really get behind them. We’ll have to learn some lessons from this quickly.”

Kristian Woolf: Toulouse deserve all the credit

Woolf added: “It wasn’t something we saw coming, we trained quite well in the week running up to this.

“Full credit to Toulouse, there were a couple of times where we got on top and we looked like we had an opportunity to run away with it but they found a real energy to stop us and they found some good tries as well.

“They deserve all the credit, it’s a great win for them and their club but we’ve got to look at what happened tonight and learn from it.”

St Helens currently still sit at the top of the Super League table. At the time of writing, they are level on points with Catalans Dragons and Wigan. They’ve all only lost one game from their first six.

The Saints begin their defence of the Challenge Cup next weekend. They travel to Cumbria to face Championship club Whitehaven on Saturday, 2pm kick-off. The cup tie will be shown live on The Sportsman.
