Lachlan Lam future update with PNG star ‘absolutely loving it’ at Leigh
Papua New Guinea star Lachlan Lam is ‘loving every minute’ of his time in Super League with Leigh, according to his father and coach Adrian.
The 25-year-old half-back has played a key role in Leigh’s impressive start to life back in the top flight, playing in all nine games so far.
Lam arrived at the Leopards midway through last season from NRL side Sydney Roosters on a deal until the end of 2023.
The Kumuls representative made 31 appearances in the NRL for the Roosters before linking up with his dad in England.
When asked if Lachlan still had ambitions to play in the NRL one day, Adrian replied: “What I do know about Lachlan is that he is absolutely loving it here at the moment.
“He’s enjoying the way that the Super League is being run and how the games unfold.
“He loves the crowds and our fans here. He has got a real big following locally really quickly but he is playing great rugby.
“I know he is enjoying his rugby here and as long as that he’s enjoying his rugby here, I’m sure he’ll stay here and help us develop as a club over the next couple of years.
“The other stuff we can’t control at the moment. All I know is that he wants to be a part of us and wants to stay here so let’s enjoy that whilst its happening and keep developing him as well.”
Lachlan Lam enjoying life at Leigh
Lam quickly became a fan favourite at the terraces at the Leigh Sports Village with his impressive displays, and the feeling is very much mutual.
Adrian added: “I heard him in a conversation talk to one of his Sydney Roosters former team-mates the other day that he said he loves the town, it has been amazing for him, he is enjoying his rugby.
“We’re doing okay at the moment and he has been a big part of moving the club forward up the ladder in Super League.
“I still think he has still got his best rugby left (in him) too so he has been quite damaging and very influential for us at the moment.
“We’ve just got to keep hoping that he continues to grow and improve.”
Next up for Lam’s Leopards is a home game against Leeds in Round 10 of Super League on Friday night.
