Leeds provide injury update but no timescale on returns
Leeds have provided an update on the three players injured in Friday’s win at Hull KR, but have not said when they expect any of the trio to return.
Harry Newman suffered a hamstring injury which the club say is a new injury rather than a recurrence of the one suffered earlier this season.
Cameron Smith has had a hand stitched while Bodene Thompson has had scans on a rib injury.
A Rhinos statement added: “Cameron Smith sustained an open wound in his hand which has been stitched and will return to team training as healing allows.
“Harry has commenced his rehabilitation and the club medical team will work with relevant specialists to aid Harry in his recovery. At this stage, no timescale has been put on his return to play.”
Other players missing
Two other players are progressing following operations last week.
James Donaldson had a successful clear out of his knee, while youngster Max Simpson had surgery to clear up the ankle injury sustained against Toulouse.
The Rhinos also added that James Bentley, Kruise Leeming and Tom Briscoe are progressing well and will return to full training with the squad in the near future.
Possible return and no bans
Leeds welcome Warrington to Headingley on Friday night as they look to maintain their play-off push.
Smith has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he hopes to be back in the team.
He said: “I haven’t ruled myself out, I’ll just keep talking with the doctors and the physio team.
“To be honest, when it happened I thought my season was done, but the best case scenario is what’s happened, so hopefully I won’t miss a game.”
There was at least some respite for the Rhinos in this week’s disciplinary review.
No bans were handed down to Leeds players, a rarity in a season that has seen them fall foul of the disciplinary system on a regular basis.
David Fusitua is suspended for this week’s match.
