Lockyer negotiations

Brisbane legend Darren Lockyer has dropped his strongest hint yet that he will see out his playing days with the Broncos.

Despite recent speculation linking him with a move to join his former mentor Wayne Bennett at St George, the 32-year-old Queensland Origin five-eighth says negotions with the Broncos are “looking good”.

He told Fairfax Media: “Look, I really can’t see myself leaving the Broncos for another NRL club.”

“My negotiations with the club have been going really good and we’re not far away from securing a deal there. Hopefully we can get some news on that in the next few weeks. A couple more years is where we are heading. It’s looking good.”

Lockyer also admitted that a move to Super League is also unlikely within the near future.

He added: “Super League is an option down the track, but if things go to plan here with another couple of seasons at the Broncos, then there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before I even contemplate that stuff.”
