London Skolars announce double retention
London Skolars have announced Leighton Ball and Jerome Yates have signed new deals with the club for the 2022 season.
Ball, who was used in a variety of positions last year, made five appearances for the Skolars in total, scoring one try in their win over West Wales.
Speaking to the club website about his new deal, Ball said: “I am looking forward to working with Joe Mbu who has had years of playing and coaching experience at a high level.
“I am excited to continue to learn and develop as a player. I will be putting in 100% effort and believe if we work hard and maintain a positive mindset, we will be destined for a successful League season”
Meanwhile, Yates has been playing with the capital club since the 2018 season. He has since made 17 appearances for the club, scoring four tries.
The 24-year-old added: “I am really excited to be working with Joe again. With the World Cup on the horizon, this is going to be a big year for me. I think Joe can help me take my game to the next level. I can’t wait!”
Skolars General Manager, Charlie de Haan also said: “Leighton has been in and around the first-team set-up for a while and has come through our Junior ranks.
“He is working very hard to get more playing time this season.
“We are looking for Jerome to continue his progression and take on a more senior role within Joe’s squad”
New era at the Skolars
The Skolars will head into the 2022 season with a new Head Coach at the helm. Joe Mbu has taken on the role, as Jermaine Coleman has taken the London Broncos job.
They start their League One campaign against Hunslet at the New River Stadium at the end of March. Before then, they will enter the Challenge Cup in the second round, which is due to take place at the end of January.
