Man of Steel 2022: New leader at the top after third round
There is a new leader at the top of the Steve Prescott Man of Steel rankings in the shape of St Helens forward Sione Mata’utia.
The Samoa international has made a strong start to the season with Super League champions St Helens. He tops the Man of Steel leaderboard with seven points after claiming three points in Saints’ 20-4 win over Wakefield last week.
From the same game, Wakefield’s England World Cup hopeful Tom Johnstone won two points. Saints winger Tommy Makinson was rewarded with a point.
Leeds 4-10 Catalans
Catalans Dragons back-rower Mike McMeeken turned into a makeshift prop in their win at Headingley. The former England international stood up to the test and claimed all three Man of Steel points.
Ireland international Micky McIlorum got two points for his stellar display for the Dragons. Leeds youngster Morgan Gannon got one point.
Wigan 22-12 Huddersfield
It was a classic Tommy Leuluai performance last Thursday. The New Zealand legend steered Wigan to a victory as the club mourned the passing of former fan’s favourite Inga Tuigamala. He won all three Man of Steel points.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield full-back Tui Lolohea got two points for his strong performance. Kai Pearce-Paul, who has recently been included in Shaun Wane’s England training squad, continued his string of impressive displays and claimed one point.
Hull KR 26-10 Castleford
Towering winger Sam Wood endured a nightmare debut for Hull KR in the opening round, but he bounced back to form last week by scoring two tries to help the Robins beat Castleford. He claimed all three Man of Steel points.
Robins hooker Matt Parcell claimed two points for his elusive display, whilst Shaun Kenny-Dowall got one.
Hull 48-16 Salford
There was only going to be one man getting the three Man of Steel points in this one. Jake Connor scored a try and provided SIX assists in Hull’s big win over Salford.
Jordan Lane, who recently signed a new deal with hometown club Hull, got two points. Young centre Cameron Scott was given one point.
Toulouse 18-32 Warrington
Warrington enjoyed a clean sweep of the Man of Steel points following their win in the south of France. George Williams took his Man of Steel tally to five points after winning the maximum amount on Saturday. Outside-backs Toby King and Josh Charnley received the other points on offer.
