Marc Sneyd says he has found a Salford team reborn after his move back from Hull FC and has backed the club to create history by winning silverware.

The back-to-back Lance Todd Trophy winner returns to the club who gave him a professional debut, and says those tipping Salford to struggle could be in for a surprise.

“We are a brand new team,” he told Love Rugby League.

“A lot of people are still here but we have brought a lot of people in, a new coach, new systems, new everything but everybody has bought into it from November. It is ridiculous how well we have come together.

“It feels so new and it is exciting. A lot of people hadn’t played in a Paul Rowley team before, and I hadn’t.

“Having that new thing is something completely different and is exciting I’ve been learning as quickly as I possibly can, just like everybody else.

“We are on full alert and need to be happy to learn.”

Home comforts

Sneyd turns 31 this week and admits that being back in Oldham with his family was a key reason for quitting Hull FC with whom he enjoyed those thrilling Challenge Cup successes.

He added: “The move wasn’t to do with rugby. It was just the offer I was given was something Hull couldn’t offer me.

“I couldn’t turn it down as it’s given me security for a few years and the chance to move back. Hull were very understanding.

“I loved every bit about Hull. Kept myself away from the city centre as everybody knows what it’s like in Hull with the rugby. I just went in did my job and got out.”

Sneyd will start the season as a commuter, revealing that his house move had been held up by solicitors.

“I’m having a nightmare with that. I was hoping to be in before the start of the season but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.”

And on the pitch the scrum half is confident that Salford can build on their recent appearances in the Grand Final and Challenge Cup Final, perhaps even going one better.

“I’m back at Salford but everything has changed. A couple of staff and the fans are the only things the same from when I first started out. I’ve come full circle.

“Two finals here in three years is incredible and I bet not one person expected that. We’d like to go one step further and create that little bit of history. And I can’t wait for it.”
