March: Living the dream

Hunslet Hawks player-coach Paul March says his side are living the dream as they prepare to go into a Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round tie against Engage Super League opponents Salford City Reds at the South Leeds Stadium on Sunday May 8 (3.00pm).

Salford have blown hot and cold so far this season and March, a former Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Wildcats player who led Hunslet to promotion last season, believes his Co-operative Championship side have all the attributes to cause a major upset.

“It’s every players dream to play in the Challenge Cup,” said March. “It’s the greatest knock-out competition in world Rugby League and getting into the fifth round would be a huge boost for the club. It’s a massive incentive for the players and we know we have the ability to pull off a Cup shock.

“We know we’ve got nothing to lose going into the game. Salford will be favourites and everyone will be expecting them to perform and put in a big score line but that puts the pressure on their shoulder. We’ll go out there to put in a big performance and do our best on the field and we know that if we can put everything together then we’ll have a good chance at causing an upset.

“They’re a good side and they’ll bring the best out of everyone at this club because we all want to play against the best players in the best league and getting to do that helps you raise your own game on the day.

“It’s going to be a tough game no doubt about it, but we’ll put our all in on the pitch and hopefully we’ll be able to give the fans something to shout about.”
