Matt Peet praises ‘role model’ Liam Farrell ahead of 300th Wigan game
Matt Peet has hailed Liam Farrell as a role model as the England international looks set to make his 300th club appearance.
The back-rower needs just one appearance to reach the milestone. Wigan face Catalans on Saturday in Perpignan, completing their trip to France for the 2022 campaign.
Wigan had to battle all the way to win the first game of their mini Tour de France, coming from 18-10 behind to scrape to victory in Toulouse via a last-minute Harry Smith drop goal.
Farrell has been named in the squad, and Peet has praised his player who made his debut against Wakefield in 2010.
Peet: Liam Farrell a role model to junior players
“Unbelievable. I’m proud and privileged that, I coach a lot of special players, but to be his coach when he plays 300 games,” said Peet during his pre-match press conference.
“I’ve spent a lot of time on the academy here and I point to Liam as the role model to junior players.
“The epitome of what we want the club to be about. An emblem of hard work pays off.
“The way he conducts himself, the way he commits himself to his craft on a daily basis. I think people from the outside would be shocked about how dedicated he is and how hard he works.
“Everything that he receives in his career as far as praise and trophies and personal recognition, he has earned 100%.
Peet continued: “You’ve got to be careful not to take players like him for granted because he’s very consistent and he flies under the radar.
“He brings so much composure, desire and dedication into this team. Like I say, he’s just the kind of player you love to work with. The lads love him.”
