Matt Peet provides latest on Brad Singleton injury with timeframe confirmed
Wigan have been hit with yet another blow to their forward pack with Brad Singleton sustaining a long-term injury.
The 30-year-old forward was forced from the field inside just five minutes against Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with the Warriors claiming a 13-6 victory with 16 men in Round Nine.
Head coach Matt Peet has confirmed a timeframe for the ex-Ireland international, who has played in all but one game for the Warriors so far this season.
“Brad Singleton obviously limped off early on (against Warrington), he’s going to be around the eight-week mark,” Peet said.
“He’s got a strain, so it’s unfortunate. But, it’s the journey of the season.
“He’s a bit down, but he’s not one for dwelling on these things.
“He’s frustrated. There’s not much he can control now, so he’s working hard straight away and he’s that kind of character.”
Peet welcomes challenge ahead
The latest injury follows the blow to fellow forward Mike Cooper, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2023 campaign having sustained a major injury in the 13-6 win over St Helens on Good Friday.
Peet welcomes the challenge ahead as he looks within to promote youngsters with their chance in the first team.
Harvie Hill recently returned from his loan spell in the Championship with Toulouse, while Junior Nsemba has been a recurring name in the side’s 21-man Super League squads.
“As I mentioned going into the Saints game with the Joe Shorrocks one, it’s a great challenge,” Peet said.
“We’ll look at how we can shape our team up from week to week. We’ve got a really determined group, so I’d like to think that we can trust any one of them.
“With our squad, whatever we achieve this season, everyone will have played their part. Harvie and the likes have got to be ready.
“I was certainly enthused by the performance of the reserves at the weekend.”
Cade Cust also continues with rehabilitation from his injury.
