Matt Peet: We’ve not been good enough across the two games

Wigan head coach Matt Peet has been left disappointed with his side’s performances against Catalans and Toulouse on their ’Tour De France’.

Warriors began their 10-day trip with a hard-fought win over Toulouse. Only a last-minute drop-goal from Harry Smith separated the two sides, with the hosts leading the majority of the game.

Captain Thomas Leuluai and centre Jake Bibby returned for their clash with the Dragons in round five. However, it was Sam Tomkins’ comeback that had the biggest influence on the game, handing Wigan their first defeat of the season.

The former Warriors full-back kicked six goals, while team-mate Mitchell Pearce crossed for a brace. Mickael Goudemand and Samisoni Langi also crossed for a 28-0 home victory.

Prop Gil Dudson and hooker Michael McIlorum also returned from suspensions.

Matt Peet: ‘We’re very disappointed’

Wigan toiled in wet conditions at Stade Gilbert Brutus, but Peet said: “It was bad for both sides and we need to be much better than that.

“We came to France to beat Toulouse and Catalans and we need to learn some lessons from this.

“We will find out where we are as a group in how we react to tonight’s performance.

“We’re very disappointed. We were given a lesson in how to play wet-weather rugby league by Catalans and I thought they kicked and completed better than we did.

“We were in double figures for errors and we didn’t kick well either, so we never gave ourselves a chance.

“I think we learned lessons tonight and we learnt some more against Toulouse. We’ve not been good enough across the two games.

“We’re learning where we’re at as a group and it’s important that we stick together.

“We will attack the next stage of the season but on the whole on this trip we haven’t performed well enough.”
