McCormack predicts Championship classic

Barrow coach Steve McCormack says Thursday’s Sky televised Co-operative Championship fixture against Halifax has the makings of a classic.

Barrow need to win to keep the pressure on second-placed Leigh while Halifax would jump into the top two themselves with victory at Craven Park.

McCormack said: “Every team is now jostling for positions.

“While I don’t think this game will be the final game that will determine things, we’re obviously at the stage of the season where every match is important.”

Chris Young may return following a knee injury, while Jamie Rooney is definitely included after recovering from an ear infection.

McCormack added: “Halifax are an outstanding side. They’ve got players that can score points from anywhere.

“I’ve coached quite a few of their players in the past, so I’m fully aware of the quality they’ve got.

“Games between these two sides tend to be very entertaining and we’ve got to make sure we play to the best of our ability if we are to beat them.”

Miles Greenwood has an outside chance of playing for Halifax, who could also include former Leigh player Adam Rudd and hooker Sean Penkywicz in their squad.
