McCrone to captain Wolfpack
Toronto Wolfpack have named Australian scrum half Josh McCrone as the club’s new captain.
McCrone, 30, has made more than 150 appearances in the NRL for St George Illawarra and Canberra.
Former Warrington prop Ashton Sims has been named vice captain.
McCrone said: “It’s an absolute honour for me. I’ve always seen myself as a leader on the field but this is the first time I’ve actually been a club captain so this is the next step in my career.
“As a half back you are always expected to steer the team around the park but to get to lead them on and off the field is something I’m very excited about.
“I want a strong personality next to me when I’m making decisions and it’s great to have someone like Ashton (Sims) alongside me who is a big personality and a big voice too.”
Toronto have this week been in Portugal on a pre-season training camp but have been rocked by the departures of high profile trio Dave Taylor, Fuifui Moimoi and Ryan Bailey just a fortnight before the opening game of the Championship season.
