New deals for St Helens pair
St Helens have handed contract extensions to academy pair Matty Costello and Jack Ashworth.
Costello, 20, made his Saints first team debut in April and has also made 15 appearances on dual-registration at Sheffield, earning him a nomination for the Championship Young Player of the Year award.
Ashworth, 23, has also spent time with Sheffield and has made five appearances for St Helens in this campaign. He made his debut back in 2015.
Coach Justin Holbrook said: “Matty has really developed in the first team and has done a fantastic job for us.
“He has learnt a lot about what being a full time professional is all about and is an exciting young player.
“It’s been great for Jack to finally string some games together both at Sheffield and with us. He has played well and will be a great player of the future for us.
“Like Matty, he has learnt a lot on the details of the game; he is enthusiastic, very keen to learn and is great player to work with.”
