New York ground set for capacity increase

Drew Darbyshire

The capacity of York’s new Community Stadium is set to be increased.

City of York Council have submitted a planning application to increase the capacity by 399 seats, taking the overall capacity more than 8,500.

There will not be a delay in the construction of the stadium – but planning permission has yet to be given the green light for the additional seats.

Construction of the stadium is expected to be completed by the end of the year but a final date for it is still to be confirmed.

The Community Stadium will stage both semi-final matches of the Women’s Rugby League World Cup in 2021.
