Which forward have Salford signed? What is the latest on Dec Patton’s future? Which Wigan winger is set to be loaned out? Find out in the rumour and gossip column.

Watson confirms Yates signing

Salford Red Devils coach Ian Watson revealed at the Super League Grand Final on Saturday that the club have signed versatile forward Luke Yates from London Broncos.

Watson said: “We’ve tried sign winners for next season which is what we have been about. Luke Yates has been phenomenal in Super League so hopefully he will fill the hole that George [Griffin] will leave.” The club have yet to officially unveil Yates, though.

Patton undecided on future

Warrington Wolves half-back Dec Patton has been offered a contract by Welsh rugby union outfit Ospreys.

The 24-year-old is under contract with his hometown club for 2020 but it is believed that he has started viewing houses in Wales ahead of a potential cross-code switch. Patton has only ever played for Warrington, making more than 100 appearances for the club.

Wigan winger to be loaned out

Wigan Warriors winger Tom Davies is likely to spend the 2020 season out on loan.

The 22-year-old is currently recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in the Good Friday derby defeat to St Helens. Wigan will have four senior wingers next season in Joe Burgess, Dom Manfredi, Liam Marshall and Davies, while new recruit Bevan French can also play on the wing. Davies is contracted to the Warriors until the end of 2023 and a season-long loan might be good for his development.

Huddersfield linked with Gavet

It is looking more and more likely that Samoa international James Gavet will be a Huddersfield Giants player next season.

The 29-year-old has been at Newcastle Knights since the start of this year, playing 18 NRL games. He has struggled with injuries in recent years but is an explosive prop when fit. Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford is understood to be a keen admirer of Gavet.

Widnes wanted Sheens in 2012

It’s second time lucky for Widnes when it comes to Tim Sheens.

They made an audacious attempt to land the then Australia coach on their return to Super League in 2012, making him an offer to be the best paid coach in the competition. He rejected to remain at Wests Tigers, before eventually making his way to Super League with Salford in 2015.

Warrington want forward

Warrington are on the look-out for a front-line prop to bolster their squad for the 2020 season.

With the departures of Lama Tasi and Ben Westwood, the Wolves are looking for forwards to significantly strengthen, but may be forced to add two squad bodies if they cannot find a top level solution.
