Great Britain star John Bateman has been cleared to face Papua New Guinea on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was put on report for a high tackle on New Zealand winger Ken Maumalo in Saturday’s test defeat in Christchurch.

Bateman pleaded guilty to a careless high tackle and the the match review panel, consisting of Stevan Cole, Braith Anasta and Michael Hodgson, ruled that the incident was a grade one offence.

This means that Bateman has received 50 demerit points which could lead to future suspensions applying to international matches only but he hasn’t received a suspension this time.

The Lions take on the Kumuls in Port Moresby on Saturday, 07:30am kick-off (GMT).
