Paper Talk: Ford snubs Hull KR, Championship Grand Final row plus Holbrook & Gigot future
We’ve had a quick flick through the morning’s rugby league papers.
Ford snubs Hull KR
York coach James Ford has rejected an offer from Hull KR, according to League Weekly. Ford was being lined up by the Robins to assist Tony Smith, with the view of him succeeding the former Warrington man at the helm. York are currently second in the Championship.
Clubs want neutral venue for Championship Grand Final
Championship clubs are pushing for the Grand Final to be held at a neutral venue, reports League Express. Unlike in its previous guise, it was assumed that this year’s final would be played at the home of the top seed, which looks likely to be Toronto. But clubs are concerned about logistical issues, with Leigh in particular potentially facing three trips to Canada in six weeks.
Gigot on Huddersfield’s radar
Huddersfield are looking at Wakefield’s Ryan Hampshire and Catalans’ Tony Gigot, according to League Express. Hampshire is out of contract with Trinity, who have signed London’s Alex Walker, while Gigot has turned down a new deal at the Dragons and is interesting a number of clubs.
Holbrook links Down Under
League Weekly also carries the unlikely story of Justin Holbrook returning Down Under. The Saints boss is keen to sign a new deal with the runaway Super League leaders, though reports Down Under have linked him with a move to Canterbury Bulldogs.
