Pat Smith agrees Sheffield stay
Sheffield hooker or half-back Pat Smith has a agreed a new one-year at the club.
Smith, 22, is studying at Sheffield Hallam University, and previously came through the academy ranks at Hull FC.
He made six appearances for the Eagles this term, as well as appearing for Ireland against England Knights at international level.
Head Coach Mark Aston said: “I’m delighted he’s sign a new 12 month contract and I think he has really improved and grown as a player this season, especially after he played for Ireland against England Knights earlier this year.
“It’s unfortunate that he’s not able to play week in week out for the first team but we have other great talent alongside Pat in James Davey and Andrew Henderson who have both played at Super League level.
“The good thing is Pat has come through the university system with our links at Sheffield Hallam University which is great to see and a link which is continuing to grow and develop.”
Smith had been targeted by hometown club York, having previously played amateur rugby for New Earswick.
His younger brother Ed, a back-rower, is already on the Knights’ books.
