Penrith Panthers utility linked with Super League move
Reports Down Under have linked Penrith Panthers utility Tyrone Peachey with a move to Super League for the 2024 campaign.
Writing for Wide World of Sports, Australian journalist ‘Moley’ has reported that the 31-year-old is interested in exploring options in the Super League competition.
The three-time New South Wales representative is off-contract at Penrith at the end of the season, having made the switch ahead of 2023 from Wests Tigers in a swap deal with Charlie Staines.
He has made four appearances so far in the 2023 NRL campaign under Nathan Cleary, most recently during Magic Round as Penrith defeated New Zealand Warriors 18-6 at Suncorp Stadium.
Moley has reported that several Super League clubs are showing some interest in the utility, who can play both in the pack and in the outside-backs.
More on Tyrone Peachey
Peachey has made close to 200 NRL appearances since his debut in 2013 with Cronulla Sharks.
He then enjoyed five years at Penrith in his first stint with the club, making more than 100 appearances and scoring 40 tries. Peachey also represented the Prime Minister’s XIII in 2015 against Papua New Guinea, featuring from the interchange bench.
Able to play loose forward, centre, in the halves or at nine, Peachey has also represented New South Wales City and Indigenous All Stars.
Born in Wellington, New South Wales, he made his debut in State of Origin debut in 2018, with New South Wales claiming the series with a 2-1 victory with wins in the first two fixtures over Queensland.
In 2018, he signed a three-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans worth a reported $1.5million, starting from 2019.
He joined Wests Tigers ahead of 2022 on a two-year deal, before being a part of a swap deal with Penrith for winger or full-back Staines for 2023. Peachey made 13 appearances for the Tigers as the club finished bottom of the table and claimed the Wooden Spoon for the first time.
Peachey then joined the reigning champions and made his second club debut for Penrith against Canberra.
He has also made six appearances in the New South Wales Cup for Penrith in 2023, scoring once, having played for the Magpies in 2022 on 11 occasions.
