Peter Mata’utia suspension appeal unsuccessful

Castleford centre Peter Mata’utia will serve a two-match ban after an unsuccessful appeal at tribunal.

The 29-year-old was charged with a late hit on Toronto forward Jon Wilkin in the 56th minute of Sunday’s game, which the Tigers won 28-10.

Mata’utia was charged with a Grade B offence and handed a two-match suspension. He pleaded guilty but challenged the grading at tribunal – but his challenge to the penalty notice was unsuccessful.

He will now serve a two-match ban and has been given a £500 fine.

Mata’utia will miss Castleford’s next two fixtures against Wigan and Catalans.
