Powell set for Castleford job
Daryl Powell is set to leave Featherstone to take the vacant head coach position at Castleford.
Powell, 47, has been at the Bigfellas Stadium since 2008 and has led Rovers to the last three Championship league leaders’ shields.
He is now ready to make a return to Super League, 10 years after he moved upstairs at Leeds when Tony Smith arrived as head coach.
Castleford, who beat Hull 32-24 on Sunday, have played four games under the temporary stewardship of Danny Orr following the departure of Ian Millward.
Leeds assistant James Lowes and former Wakefield boss John Kear were among the other candidates linked with the position.
Kear’s current club Batley were the opposition in what is likely to be Powell’s final game at Featherstone – with Rovers running out 16-12 winners.
It is believed the move was expected to go through last week, but is now set to be announced on Tuesday.
