Red Devils looking to link up with Cronulla

Salford chief executive Martin Vickers says the club are hoping to broker a deal with Cronulla, after confirming Shane Flanagan will be joining on a three-month contract.

Flanagan, 48, is currently serving a one-year, NRL-imposed ban over issues surrounding the Sharks’ controversial 2011 supplements programme.

He has recently signed an extension to his contract with Cronulla, but in the meantime he will work alongside new Salford head coach Iestyn Harris in a consultancy role.

“Shane sees this opportunity as part of his own development,” said Vickers.

“Iestyn will be in control, and will have a choice of how to use Shane’s expertise and techniques.

“Shane’s reputation for picking the right talent cannot be overlooked and his input will be important for our recruitment strategies.

“We are also looking to work closely with Cronulla in the future.

“They are one of the top clubs in the NRL, and we are hoping to have Iestyn go over there at some point, much like what other Super League clubs have done in the past.”

Flanagan’s position would not effect Brian Noble should he decide to take up Salford’s offer of director of football.
