RL Today: John Bateman World Cup hopes in doubt & Hull recruitment update
John Bateman World Cup hopes in doubt
England international John Bateman could now be a doubt for the World Cup campaign following his charge in the defeat to Leeds.
The 28-year-old Wigan back-rower has been referred to tribunal following his red card against the Rhinos. He has been charged with Grade D strikes and could receive up to a five-match ban for his dangerous tackle on Aidan Sezer. It would rule him out for the majority of the World Cup, including all the group matches, if he is handed the highest suspension.
Meanwhile, St Helens will appeal Morgan Knowles’ two-match ban for a Grade B dangerous contact.
