Liam Farrell named new Wigan captain

Wigan have appointed back-rower and England international Liam Farrell as their new captain ahead of the 2023 Super League season.

Farrell, 32, has won 11 major honours in 13 seasons with Wigan. He has made 321 appearances for the club, scoring 130 tries.

Salford issue stadium update

Salford City Council have rejected a joint bid from Sale Sharks and Salford City to purchase the AJ Bell Stadium. (BBC)

Salford Red Devils currently play at the 12,000-capacity venue, with their future in question. However, the BBC has reported that both Sale and Salford will remain at the AJ Bell, while Salford City said they would now stay at their Peninsula Stadium home.

Former world champion boxer Anthony Crolla has led a pre-season session for League 1 outfit Oldham. The squad trained at Crolla’s gym ahead of their 2023 campaign.

Kevin Sinfield joins marathon man

Kevin Sinfield joined marathon man Gary McKee on Tuesday. McKee completed his 354th marathon, edging towards his goal of 365 – one per day for 2022.

He has raised more than £330,000 so far for Macmillan Cancer Support and Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Batley Bulldogs have announced the re-signing of Ben Kaye for the upcoming 2022 Championship campaign.

Chris Green reveals “horror” injury

Leigh forward Chris Green has revealed the horrific journey that has forced him into retirement at the age of 32.

Green suffered a broken arm in the second round of the 2022 Championship campaign against Featherstone in February, and was hoping to return later that season.

However, the injury was the start of a long and gruesome process, in which he was told he could have lost his arm.
