Roby takes over as Saints skipper
St Helens coach Justin Holbrook has named James Roby as the club’s new captain.
Roby, 32, takes over the mantle from Jon Wilkin, who has been Saints skipper for the past three seasons.
Holbrook said: “Wilko will play limited game time this year and I want our captain to be on for the majority, if not all, the game.
“Robes is a perfect fit for our club and I’m really looking forward to him captaining us.
“He deserves to captain the club.
“I’d like to thank Jon Wilkin, over the last three years he’s done a great job, and though he’s a busy man, he always puts the club first.”
Roby has spent his entire career with Saints, making 398 appearances, and has also played 37 times for Great Britain and England.
He was Man of Steel in 2007, won the Harry Sunderland Trophy in 2014 and has been named in the Super League Dream Team five times.
