Rooney released by South Wales
Former Wakefield and Barrow stand-off Jamie Rooney has been released by Championship 1 side South Wales Scorpions.
Rooney, 32, only joined the club in the close season but played his last game in Monday’s derby defeat against North Wales Crusaders.
Also leaving the club is Joe McKenna, with a statement saying “the release of both players is by mutual consent.”
Rooney made 150 appearances for Wakefield in Super League, before spending three years with Barrow until their relegation at the end of last season.
He then spent some time playing for Limoux Grizzlies in France, moving to South Wales to play under Dave Clark, who had coached both Rooney and McKenna at Barrow.
McKenna signed for the club from Workington, having come through the Barrow academy.
